FAQ
Frequently Asked
Where will my lessons take place?
You can choose to have your lessons online or face-to-face. Online lessons are delivered via Zoom. Face-to-face lessons take place in New Ross.
What courses can I choose from?
- Grinds in English, Irish, French, Chinese and History for Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate students.
- Academic support: If you are a non-English speaker, we provide language and academic support to you to help you fill the gaps in your knowledge.
- English for Academic Purposes (EAP): This course is designed for students in university who want to improve their research and writing skills. It is especially important for those studying engineering or students studying for their master’s degree or Ph.D.
- IELTS training (general & academic): The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is the most popular exam in the world for testing a person’s English- language level. If you want to work in Ireland, you study IELTS General. If you want to study in Ireland at third level, you must do an IELTS test. This is also true for students who have lived here for many years and speak, read and write fluently but whose first language is not English.
- General English for adults. This course is designed to help adults to adapt to living in Ireland. The focus is on everyday conversations such as shopping, going to the doctor, speaking to teachers.
- Presentation skills are essential for people in all walks of life. Our teachers are very experienced presenters and have coached many people from various nationalities.
Are there tests?
Mock tests are given to:
- Junior Cert and Leaving Cert students to help them prepare for the different
question types they will see in their exams. End of semester tests are also given. - IELTS students are given to students who have registered to do their IELTS test.
- A level test is done for all students who undertake General English. This is done so that the student can receive the best possible tuition.
If I find the class too difficult, what should I do?
If you find the class is too difficult, speak to your teacher. As most of our classes are one-to-one, this should not be a problem as your teacher will be able to adapt to your level in class.
Will I have homework?
All secondary school students and those studying EAP will receive written assignments that will be corrected by their teacher. IELTS students will receive writing assignments. Students doing our General English course can decide whether they want homework or not as many of them are working and may not have the time to do assignments. For people doing our course in Presentation Skills, you will be asked to prepare Powerpoint presentations and to prepare speeches.
How many students are in each class?
Most of our classes are one-to-one class. Group classes are limited to five students.
What happens if I can’t attend a class?
If you are doing a one-to-one class (online or face-to-face), you can arrange with your teacher to reschedule. If you are in an online group class, you can request the recording of the lesson. However, if you are in a face-to-face group class and cannot attend you lose that class as face-to-face classes are not recorded.
